Context

This file is in a series of 17 files, explained in detail at GLC/DG/PTI/P/05/048.

Within the wider series, this file contains correspondence from September to November 1970.

Contents of note

  • The final step in the story of LB Bromley's alternative route for R2: having published the alternative alignment themselves, the GLC were forced to engage with the proposal in public. A statement from Vigars says the GLC's line was better for "strategic traffic", but the GLC welcomed Bromley's line which enabled a "fully directional" interchange with Parkway E and which would ultimately be cheaper. The GLC would probably have accepted Bromley's line but, oh dear, the GLDP Inquiry was now under way and the decision was out of their hands. As a result the GLC and Bromley lines both went to inquiry as equal alternatives and no decision was taken.
  • Multiple copies of a wad of paperwork with the collected comments of affected Boroughs about the Norbury-Falconwood section of R2.
  • Evidence of at least one more property purchase.
  • Some misfiled notes that indicate Hale End Road junction on the North Circular would have been a roundabout interchange with a D2 flyover above it.
